Branding & Story
Sushi, Christopher, and Forty-Three Years
Today I’m not going to teach you anything.
Today I’m just going to show up as a human being who had a really good week — and share it with you before I go eat sushi with my husband and our Dorkie, Christopher, who takes his sushi very seriously. (He’s not wrong.)
Today is our 43rd wedding anniversary.
And this particular anniversary finds me in a surprisingly light place. Lighter than I’ve felt in a while, actually.
This week I did something I’d been putting off for months. I organized one folder. Just one — my brand box folder, the one that holds the core documents that define my business and my voice. I’d been carrying the low-level weight of that chaos around so long I’d stopped noticing it.
It took ten minutes.
And something shifted that I didn’t expect. Not just the folder. Something in me. The story I’d been telling myself about how hard and disruptive and overwhelming it would be — that story dissolved the moment I actually did the thing.
That’s the week in a nutshell. Monday I named the resistance. Tuesday I committed to one small step. Wednesday I told you about the document that makes AI actually know me. Thursday I reported back with the results.
And Friday I’m going into a holiday weekend feeling clear, feeling grateful, and feeling like myself.
Forty-three years with the same person teaches you things. One of them is this: most of the things you dread never turn out to be as hard as the dreading.
The dreading is the hard part. The doing is almost always just ten minutes.
Happy Fourth of July weekend to those who celebrate. And happy anniversary to my husband, who has never once doubted that I could figure out any technology I set my mind to — even when I doubted it myself.
Now if you’ll excuse me, Christopher is already waiting by the door.
What are you going into this weekend feeling good about? Tell me below.
