Something's Coming (Christopher's Not Worried)

Christopher has a look he gets. Ears up, eyes half-closed, completely unbothered, stretched out on the couch like he owns the place, which, let’s be honest, he does. I caught him mid-lounge this week and something about his expression said more than words would have.

Something’s coming. He doesn’t know what. He doesn’t need to know what. He’s not pacing, not barking at the door, not doing whatever the dog version of doom-scrolling is. He’s just resting, aware, ready, completely at ease with not knowing exactly when.

I’ve been taking notes. There’s a version of me that would spend the week before something big pacing instead of resting, checking things that don’t need checking, working myself into a state that has nothing to do with actually being prepared. Christopher doesn’t do that. He just settles in and waits, confident that whatever’s coming, he’ll handle it when it gets here.

Something’s coming. He knows it. For now, he’s just enjoying the couch.
